90 Day Protocol

First days

Tell one man. Not the group chat.

You want a crowd so the night has a shape. A crowd cannot stop your thumb at 1 a.m.

You have the family thread open. Or the one from the job. Or you are halfway through a post that starts with I guess I should tell you all. Your thumb wants witnesses. It wants someone to say she is wrong.

It will get you a room. It will not get you a handbrake.

The first days after she leaves, or after someone hands you papers, your body wants an audience. An audience feels like proof that this is happening and that you are not the villain. An audience is how the story leaves the house and does not come back.

One man. One job.

Pick one man you trust. Not the funniest one. Not the one who already hated her. Not the one who will turn this into a project about your next life. The one who can hear a bad sentence and not make it louder.

Tell him what happened. Facts. She left. Or the envelope. Or the sentence at the table. Then give him the job in words.

Do not let me do anything stupid for three days.

Call him. Do not text a novel to the friend too. A sentence is enough. She left. Or they served me. Can you be the person I call before I do something. If he says he is at a game and he will call tomorrow, pick a different man, or use 988 and the lawyer's intake in the morning. Tomorrow is not a handbrake.

That is the whole assignment. He is not your lawyer. He is not a scout you send across town. He is a handbrake. If he asks what stupid means, be specific. Do not let me text her a novel. Do not let me show up. Do not let me sign anything. Do not let me post. Do not let me drink and then drive. If you need him to hold the phone, or to sit in the kitchen and say almost nothing, say that.

Not the group chat

The group chat is a jury that never adjourns. Someone will screenshot. Someone will tell a person who still talks to her. You will spend the next month managing a story you cannot edit.

The family thread is worse. Parents pick sides with the speed of old injuries. A sibling will call her. You will have to walk that back in front of people who now think they are in the case. You can tell your parents later, in a sentence, when you can say it without shaking. You are not required to brief a bloodline at midnight so you do not feel alone.

No social

Do not post. Do not story. Do not put up a caption and wait for the DMs. The internet keeps a copy. A later room, a later lawyer, a later child with a search bar, will find the version of you that had not slept.

Once information is out, you cannot pull it back. That is the whole rule. Close the apps for the first days. If you cannot, give the one man permission to tell you to put the phone in a drawer.

What you do not ask him to do

Do not send him to talk to her. Do not have him ask around. Do not recruit a rescue party. He is not there to make her miss you. The minute he becomes a campaign, you have an audience again. You just hired a staff of one.

Do not ask him to tell you that she is crazy. That sentence will feel like water. It will lock you into a story you may have to live next to in a school parking lot for years. If he starts building a theory about other men or other years he cannot prove, stop him. You called him so you would not be alone with a phone.

If you do not have that man

Some men do not. The friend moved. The brother is the wrong brother. You still have 988. You still have a lawyer's intake line in the morning. You do not have to earn the right to use either one. A crisis line is not a substitute for a friend. It is a human on the other end of a night that is worse than confusion.

Do not replace the one man with a forum. A forum is a group chat with worse lighting.

The fear

You are afraid that if you tell one person it becomes real. It is already real. Telling him does not create the leave. It keeps you from inventing a second disaster on top of the first.

You are afraid that if you tell no one, you will do something you cannot take back. That fear is the useful one. That is why the job is three days, not a personality makeover. You are also afraid one man will not hold the size of this. The crowd will not hold it either. The crowd will comment. You will still have to put the phone down and find a bed.

What this is not

This is not a move to look strong, and it is not a way to write her feed. It is not a chase. You do not use the one man as a messenger. You do not use silence on social as bait.

One man. Not the group chat. Not a post. A handbrake, named, with a job. That is the work for the first days. It is smaller than the story you want to tell. It is the size that keeps tomorrow available.

Next step

One man. Then the protocol.

The group chat is still open. Close it. Name the man. Then run the First 24 Hours. If you already want the 90 days on a calendar, that door is open.
